Now I hope it gets added to BJCP. Time for an update.

Yeah, things were still a bit hazy (if you'll pardon the pun) when they drafted the 21b Specialty IPA category for the 2017 BJCP. Now we know a lot more about the characteristics and longevity of the NEIPA style. Time for update in the 2020 BJCP.

Give it 5 years or so and then the style will die just like Black IPAs did.Matt F wrote:Now I hope it gets added to BJCP. Time for an update.

Not so sure about that. A good NEIPA is just too damned delicious.Eric B wrote:Give it 5 years or so and then the style will die just like Black IPAs did.Matt F wrote:Now I hope it gets added to BJCP. Time for an update.
Re: Hazy beer officially beer now
I think Hazy here to stay. Black IPA, hoppy browns, hoppy ambers, white IPA, none of them captured the market share that NEIPA has. Also, I never brewed any of those other IPA vatients but brew NEIPA 3 out of every 4 batches.

I agree, I think the NEIPA is here to stay. I laughed at them a little early on, but quickly succumbed to the hoppy deliciousness. I think like anything there is a glut of crappy bandwagon beers out there, but the good ones will stick around.Matt F wrote:I think Hazy here to stay. I got it!Eric B wrote:Was just joking about BJCP curse. Was a joke, people.
But in truth, I do not know of any work under way to update the BJCP Guidelines anytime soon.
I'd bet that NEIPA will be in the next release.
Confluence is about to release one...was able sample it right out of the tank yesterday. It doesn't get any fresher than that.
