General Meeting Minutes
2018 April 19

Meeting was called to order at 8:07 pm at Thew Brewing with 32 members in attendance plus a number of guests..

Name Change and Rebranding
The proposed amendment to the constitution was given its second reading. A voice vote was taken and the motion to amend the constitution was carried with with 31 votes in favor and one vote in opposition.

Club Competitions
Watch the club forums for details and announcements.
April - Dunkles Weissbier (10B) - Members turned in entries. Judging to be held in the next few weeks.
July - Czech Pale Lager (3A)
October - American Amber (19A)
A fifth competition for mead will be added to the calendar starting in 2019.
McCusker’s Mad Mead Melee
Judging was held at East Grove Meadery with professional input.
Comment from the pros that of the 12 entries all would be good enough to bottle and sell. Congratulations to all; every entry was very good to excellent.
Winners: 1st Clint Larrison, 2nd Shane Freese, 3rd Randy Carris.

Wort Rally with Lion Bridge Brewing
Not an AHA sanctioned event this year; just too many organizational elements to get into place too quickly. Thanks to Daryl for accomplishing all he has done so far.
Eventbrite site has been up and a number of registrations have come in. Daryl contacted all those who participated last year to encourage participation this year.
Schedule:
Registration cutoff : 4/14
Container dropoff: 4/19 (tonight!)
Pickup: 4/20
Bottle dropoff: 6/1
ProAm registration: 6/1
Judging at Lion Bridge: 6/5-6/6
Pouring at Happy Hour/People’s Choice Award: 6/24
Next year start planning in November/December

“Bunged” Competition
Theme for this year is no hops. More precise guidelines for qualifications and judging criteria will be posted via social media shortly.
Turn-in for judging will be at the September General Meeting.
Feature and People’s Choice will be at the September Happy Hour at Lion Bridge Brewing.

Benz Festival
Will be held the Saturday before Mother’s Day (May 12) again this year.
Invitation to contribute beers was again stated. Please sign up the beer(s) you intend to bring via the Herokuapp at http://crbeernuts.herokuapp.com.
Setup/Pouring/Cleanup
Please let’s all help the staff at Benz out on this; they have always been very supportive of our club.
Call for members to set up starting at 10:00 am.
Trailer to be on-site at 10:00 am.
Need to get pump batteries charged.

Lager Lympics
Will be held June 9, likely again at the NewBo market.
Invitations to participate should begin at the March general meeting.
Please register your beer(s) for this event at Herokuapp.

Iowa Brewing Company ProAm Entries
Just bring your favorite homebrew.
Invitation too late to be much involved this year.
Dates TBD.

Tech Meetings
We have a number of newer brewers and many varying levels of skill/knowledge in the club. Let’s have some basic technical seminars to help brewers take the next steps.

“Jimmy Carter” Happy Hour at Lion Bridge
Gather at Lion Bridge to pour free samples of homebrew for the public on the last Sunday of the month from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm+.

New Business

CRBS Festival
New idea this year is to have a Pro-Am craft beer theme and invite our local craft breweries to participate with us. Theme is “Drink Local Beer Festival.” Plan on contacting Deb’s Brewtopia, Iowa Brewing Company, Singlespeed, Franklin Street, Clock House Brewing, Thew Brewing, Third Base, Lion Bridge Brewing, Quarter Barrel, Reunion, and Guildwurst. Did we also say Back Pocket and Big Grove?
Would like to get a local charity for this year’s festival.
Analog Vault will be spinning classic vinyl to provide music for this year’s festival..
After-festival activities will be at Lion Bridge Brewing this year. Those volunteering for working at the festival will get beer vouchers.

Big Brew Day
Date is May 5th.
No organized club activity as many of us head to Madison to get Great Taste of the Midwest tickets.

The cabinet agreed that the location of cabinet meeting should be that of the next month’s general meeting when logistically possible.
