Typical from those guys doing the rating - 1) Be high alcohol and 2) Be hard to get.

Yeah, BA. What can you say. Those are all great beers, but BA has always been heavily skued towards big (mostly barrel aged) stouts. So it bugs me when other write-ups use them for a "best of" article. Lazy writing. They are a reflection of beer hype. TG has 4 beers in the top 25 for example. But to be fair I think their obsession with NE breweries may over take the RIS obsession soon when I look at their current list.
They should really change the name to "hard to get beers" as that's what their ranking is mostly about. Less than 10 of their top 100 have much beyond local distribution. Probably half or more are extremely limited or one day only releases.
