C & S brew supply

Post by twiggy2164 »

Just read on Facebook that C&S in Ankeny is closing for good on July 21st. They’re selling everything in the store, fixtures, shelving, etc

Hm, that's too bad.
According to google maps, that leaves 1 LHBS in the center of the state, with nothing else till the Waterloo/CR/IC area west, Albert Lea north, and nebraska east. Hope that one doesn't go under, for the sake of all hobbyists in that area!

The power of internet shopping. It must be becoming a bigger deal, as there were several seminars on home brew shops at NHC.

Internet shopping is nothing new. I was buying almost all of my supplies online before BIY openned. I think we may be seeing the homebrewing bubble burst unfortunately.

The hobby was growing at a pretty fast pace when I got started. But at that time, in Iowa and I'm sure other states, a big part of why people brewed was a lack of selection on shelves and on tap. Now we're overwhelmed with options. Remember waiting in line at midnight at John's for Hopslam? That was the dam breaking.

So supply shops, and maybe clubs too, need to find a way to adapt. I don't pretend to have the answers unfortunately. I'd like to think our club is doing better than most at trying to stay relevant and attract new folks. But if anyone has ideas don't be shy about sharing or getting more involved.
