Transfer Pump - $50

Post by daryl »

This could be useful for moving liquids that are warm, cool, or cold. It is self priming too.

Interesting. 5 foot of suction too! Could be a useful tool to transfer beer, or possibly for a draft line cleaner. Looks pretty small too.

I think the temp limit is around 140 F; so it may not be so good for hot liquor transfers.

Just bought the pump, 20 ft of tubing, and a pair of stainless steel racking canes. Now I can go directly between 54L (14.2 gallon) demijons.

I typically use vacuum (all-in-one wine vacuum pump) or pressurized CO2 to make transfers. I figure that's one less thing to clean and sanitize.

But, yet, this is an interesting pump. Please do let us know how it works.

And, out of curiosity, why wouldn't the vacuum method work between demijons? It seems to work well for transfer between two 23-litre glass carboys.

I bought a Buon Vino wine filter a long time ago. You can bypass the filters and use it as a transfer pump. Slow but it works. So I am use to using a self-priming pump.

I don't just go carboy to carboy or demijon to demijon. Some times its 5 carboys to a 32 gallon bucket for blending and then back to 5 carboys or to 5 kegs for carbonation. It's just really easy to put the input into a big bucket and then move the output from container to container.
