2019 Quarterly Club Comp. Turn in and judging.
Turn in for the first quarter 20B American Stout will be at the January meeting next month.
Judging will be Tuesday January 29th at 7pm, location to be determined as it gets closer.
MARK YOUR CALENDARS!
Judging club comps this year will be held on the last Tuesday of the turn in month. Deviations to this will be announced asap so people can plan ahead for it.
This is a fun activity to join in and/ or try, whether you've done it before or are new to it. This is a helpful activity for first timers wanting to learn more about beer styles and hone in one's palette.
If you have a turn in for the comp. This doesn't out you for judging, notify me in advance and arrangements can be made so the comp stays blind and fair. Anyone can judge.
JUDGING ENTRY FORM
Entry FORM link is listed below
https://www.bjcp.org/docs/BJCP_BottleID.pdf
Three things i would like to make mandatory for turn in on the form.
Name. Contact info. Beer style/ base style.
I understand it's public knowledge, American stout, American pale ale, ect. However, the berry mead turn in, fruit beer, and bunged.... those have there own categories yes, BUT, a base style(or what fruit/ fruits) is needed for judging, otherwise your beer will be given a lower score than what it could achieve.
I will have extra forms/ tape for your turn in entries at the meetings, in case you forget but it is YOUR job to get the correct information on the form for entry. If you cannot, your score/ placing will suffer. This is your responsibility.
Im hoping to have a lot of fun with the quarterly comps this year as im new to it. I can't thank Daryl enough for his help and guidance. If the is ever any questions or things you can think of to make this run smoother please feel free to contact me.
Thanks again,
Joel

We’lldo the judging on the 29th, correct? I won’t assume, but we can probably plan on Clock House for a location, they are always happy to have us. I’ll get ahold of Todd if we have judges.

I would love to do it there but I believe they're on winter hours and are closed Mondays and Tuesdays until spring.twiggy2164 wrote:We’lldo the judging on the 29th, correct? Plus, the 29th is the CSA event @ LBB to release the Gazprom. Guess where I'll be??

Online, I see their hours to be 3PM-8PM for Mondays and Tuesdays....probably closes too early to get things done.....but you could ask, they might stay open later for us. Especially since we buy beer before and afterwards.Schwerkraftbrauer wrote:I would love to do it there but I believe they're on winter hours and are closed Mondays and Tuesdays until spring.twiggy2164 wrote:We’lldo the judging on the 29th, correct? For the general public. There's a private event on Tuesday night for CSA members.twiggy2164 wrote:I thought GAZPROM was Wednesday the 30th?

One more thing I wanted to mention on the judging, if you never have before but want to, come join us. Everybody has to start somewhere, at the very least judges will he paired up so you won’t be alone in judging a brew. If you’re unsure of yourself you can sit in as an observer and try the samples and discuss with other judges. We always can use more judges so nobody need be shy, we’re all here to learn. Joel has a nice scoring guideline sheet too, I know I’m going to find that to be a useful resource. Oh, a Steward or 2 are always welcome as well.

Yes, I agree with Travis. These judgings are a great opportunity to learn if you’ve never done it before or just want to hone your palate. The more the merrier!twiggy2164 wrote:One more thing I wanted to mention on the judging, if you never have before but want to, come join us. CALL FOR JUDGES 20B AMERICAN STOUT:
I know some of you have said you were coming to judge NEXT WEEK TUESDAY 29TH AT THEW.
7 or 7.30pm
I just wanted an official head count for this, we had 5 entries total. I will judge of course and would like at least 3 others, more would obviously be better. Stewards always welcome to help serve the judges and keep entries straight.
Post here if available and if 7 or 7.30 would work better for you.
Thanks
