Brew-B-Q
Received an email from John at the Brew-B-Q today. If at all possible please let me know what beers you are planning on taking. They are trying to utilize a mobile app for voting on favorite brews and John would like to know ASAP so he can get things organized. I told him our fest is the week before and he understands but as soon as anybody knows what they will be bringing please let me know.
The Independence Brew BQ is fast approaching. August 24 is just two weeks away. We are excited to have CRBS participating! You guys always rock the place.
I would like to get the list of beers you are planning to bring as soon as I can and for sure by the end of next week, August 16. We will again be awarding banners to the most popular home brew and most popular craft brew. We are hoping to utilize an online voting system that can be accessed from a mobile device. We plan to have all the craft and home brews listed there.
Other logistics.
The Craft Brew Zone goes from 3:00 to 7:00 pm. The first hour, 3:00 to 4:00, is our VIP hour. If you are able and willing, we ask that you designate a beer or two as VIP beers. These will be served the entire time (or until they run out) but only to those wearing a VIP wrist band.
It will be good if you arrive prior to 2:00 pm so you can get set up.
We have a shelter that your club normally sets up your bar in. There is electricity.
We will also have tables.
We will have buckets and ice to keep your beer cold.
Our event is at Teacher’s Park (same as last year). There is some construction going on in Independence so here are the directions you need.
Directions from the south:
Coming into Independence north on Hwy 150 turn left on 2nd St SE. You will cross a bridge and come to a 4 way stop. Turn right. Go one block and turn right on 1st Street by the Mill. Go across the bridge and take your first left on 2nd Ave NE (by Hartig Drug). Turn left on 5th St NE and you will go two blocks into the park. There will be a gate. Open it and come on in. You will find me by the pavilion or in the Craft Brew Zone.

Re: Brew-B-Q
I plan to bring my "leftovers" from our Festival to the Brew-B-Q.
Chunga's Revenge - Red Rye IPA
Weasel's Ripped My Flesh - Hoppy Wheat
IF (a big IF at this point), Lion Bridge decides to can my beer, then I'll bring some cans of Down Gose Frazier to pour as a VIP beer. If they don't can it, then I might try Plan B of a growler or bombers?? I should know by the Club meeting on Thursday.

Probably leftovers from Drink Local from me:
Spaceman Spliff - American IPA
Durham Brown - Northern English Brown Ale
Hopefully I'll even be able to go this year.

Re: Brew-B-Q
Shoot. I cannot go again this year. I got volunteered to take CPR/AED training that day. I suppose that's a good thing to do.
Anyway, can anyone work with me to get my beers up there?

I’ll want to get John an email tomorrow with beers being poured next Saturday. If you are taking beer to pour let me know and which if any will be for their VIP’s. They are trying to use an app to vote for favorites.

The fest app has an entry for it now. I thought I had made it live in July.

Re: Brew-B-Q
I have added my two beers, the Sour Quad is a specialty beer for the first hour, and I will only have a few (maybe several) bottles.
I am happy to coordinate with anyone that would like to send beers up, and cannot make it themselves.

Re: Brew-B-Q
Ok, what is the plan for Saturday? Looks like it is just Tony, Derek, and myself. This is a pretty light crew. Would anyone else like to come along? It's going to be a great day!
For seven beers (6 in kegs), we will not need the trailer.
But we will need:
The table-top bar and table
CO2
A few pinlock QD
tap tray
signs and some means to hang them
4 tubs to keep the beer cold, 3 if we can get 3 kegs into one tub
Some water for flushing the lines
A toolbox - just in case
A pitcher to catch water when we flush out the lines
Could use some bottles of water to stay hydrated.
Anything else?

Re: Brew-B-Q
I have bottles of water to bring. I also have the keg of PBW that we used in Rock Island that I could bring to flush lines with?? I will pick up another 6-pak of Randy's beer when I go to Lion Bridge tomorrow to get my growlers, so we can pour both Wort Rally Winners at the VIP session. I'll bring the signage that I made for our Festival as well.

I can send a keg of Spaceman Spliff if I can drop it off with one of you tonight.

Re: Brew-B-Q
I emptied the keg with the PBW and replaced it with a full keg of 1 Step for flushing out the lines. Will bring it with my beers. I hope to get there shortly after 2pm. Will need to leave shortly after 7pm. Trying to minimize kennel time for Kipper.

Re: Brew-B-Q
Lee helped me load up from the trailer....so I have the essentials.
Will leave here just before 1 PM....its a 45 minute trip to Independence, so should be there very close to 2 PM.

Re: Brew-B-Q
And another Brew BQ is in the books....
Great weather, a happy and very pleasant crowd, two entertaining bands, and some good barbecue! And many of the attendees know us, and seek us out every year. This is a really laid-back event, with a nice venue; if you have not attended this event in the past, I invite you to join us next year.
Talk about a turn around in the weather from the Festiv-ale. Where we had a 108 degree heat index, in the bright sun, and on Wake's black-topped parking lot.....whew.
Thanks to Tony, Derek, and Shane for making the trek to Independence and contributing beer.
All in all, a very nice end to our beer festival season.
I am going to celebrate by attending, and not pouring, at the Iowa Festival of Beers, next Sunday.
