Mineral Scale on Heating Coils

I have a Blichmann Brew Easy and have made a few batches with it.
This last batch, I noticed scale came off of the boil coil when I poured my brew water into the kettle.
Is this normal? Will it impart an off-flavor to the beer?
Has anyone else encountered this?
