From Teresa:

I want to run something by you guys. Last year we brewed some fun & funky higher proof beers and hosted the Beer & Chocolate Tasting in February. We would like to host an event like that again this year but pair it up with some other food, maybe appetizers. Then do chocolate next year and appetizers the next year, an every other year thing. So anyway, Chris doesn’t particularly care to or have time to brew small batches of fun beers. What if your two home brew clubs brewed about 3 beers each and we would feature them at the event. We will charged an admission and sell tickets in advance. We cannot sell the beer and make the profit off it as it is against the law. But we could make it a charity event and donate the proceeds to the 2 home brew clubs. That would pay for your beer and hopefully then some. Unfortunately, I’m sort of on a deadline as I have to have my events into the Amana Colonies Visitor Center by this Friday so if you know by then that would be great. If not and you decide in the near future we’ll do it anyway!

From Dave:

I am just checking to see if anyone is interested in brewing the beer. Let me know your thoughts.

Dave

Wow, I think that would be cool. I will commit to brew a beer. Are we making the food too? I don't mind doing that too. I vote we participate. Raise some funds for the club and show some people what homebrew can be. Should be fun.

I would like to be involved in something like this. Plus raising club funds is always a good thing.

I'm game. What about a food made with beer type event?

I'd be in with Matt. We could brew our Belgian golden string ale again - would be great with certain cheeses or savory dishes.

Here is the latest from Teresa. Looks like the club has some brewing to do.

Dave,

That’s good to hear. I’m looking at the event to be held in February so I’m ahead of the game. My problem is that I need to put the date in the Amana Visitors 2010 Guide by tomorrow so they can get the guide laid out and to the printer. I am going to go ahead and put down February 20, 2010 for the date and we can work out the details later. So reserve that date!

Glad you guys are interested.

Cheers!
Teresa Albert

Assuming I can make a batch worth sharing, I'm in.

EXCELLENT!! Count me in, too!!

As Big T said, I can help whip up some death chili or something! Plus, if we can get with Teresa soon about the food ideas, then we can plan the beers accordingly in case some style need some aging time.

Pappy seems to be on it and I know Matt has good food/beer ideas, too. Even if they don't want us to actually make the food, we can offer up menu ideas for whoever is preparing the food and we can match it to various beer styles. I would like to see at least 2 or 3 beer style that would be interesting pairing with each food item. Remember, the idea here is to help other folks get an idea of how to match food with beer, so by having multiple styles to pair up then they can see firsthand that stout is not a good match for tuna carpaccio or belgian wits with lasagne.

A little late, but I would be in for making something for this. The way the dates work out our regular meeting for Feb would be on the 18th, so we could always do a club judging to get the number of beers down if Teressa wants to keep the beer list short.

I will have to get busy brewing some things for the event.

Again sorry for the late post on this, I have been out of town since the 7th of this month.
