BrewBQ 2022

Post by laloeb »

The 16th Annual Independence BrewBQ is on August 27th. The Craft Brew Zone operates from 3:00 to 7:00 pm, and they will provide tables, ice, and buckets to keep the beer cold. I asked if we could serve from the usual shelter location, and the new event coordinator, Nick Delagardelle, agreed to give it to us. Each person providing a beer for the event will receive a souvenir glass to keep. CRBS has been a long-time participant at BrewBQ, and I know we'll have a few members participating. We'll most likely be taking up the jockey box and the tabletop bar, since they are so much easier to set up than the large bars.

It's the week after the Drink Local Festival, so it would be a good option for anyone with leftover beer. We can discuss it at the upcoming meetings.

Yes, this is a very fun event. Nice to hear that we've secured the covered area again. It's become "our spot!" I plan to attend. And yes, let's keep it simple this year and not roll out the big bar(s) for it. We usually only have a few members attend, so it's harder to set up all that equipment. We've done it, but it's a PITA!!

One thing that we need to work on/coordinate - IF we are going to pour the week after this event in Amana, we might need to stagger what leftover beers we have from our Festival to make sure that we have enough to cover both follow-up events.

The BrewBQ organizer sent an update this morning, just the normal info. My comments in blue.

"At your earliest convenience, and by Monday, August 22, can I get the list of beers you are planning to bring with you. Remember that we have a voting system and will be giving out awards the most popular brewery beer and home brew beer. We plan to have an online voting system again this year. All your beers will be listed online." Please post your beers to the http://app.cedarrapidsbrewingsociety.org/festivals/39 as soon as you can before or after the Drink Local festival.

"Please note that we have a VIP hour from 3:00 to 4:00 and we request that you designate one beer as a VIP beer to be available only during that time." I still have about 3 gallons of the club RIS that I'd donate for the VIP beer. I could also start rationing my consumption of the Flanders Red to bring. Post here if you have other suggestions for the VIP beer.

The Club barrel-aged beers should be the VIP beers. Whichever one is tasting the best now?

btw - I heard back from them, too. I'd asked whether the Craft Beer area was "dog friendly." I got a polite - No. So, I'm going to have to see if I can get Buddy into the kennel for an overnight stay that Saturday?

Reminder to please post your beers for Brew-B-Que 2022 on http://app.cedarrapidsbrewingsociety.org/festivals/39 if you plan to go to Brew-B-Que. I understand that it's hard to know what you'll have left after Drink Local, but posting kegs that have >3 gallons in them should be safe to add at this point. Thanks!

I entered 6 products for Brew B Q. Let me know if you want more or less. How many taps are we going to set up?

Do we have VIPs selected? My understanding is the VIP entries should not be served during the normal hours.

I have about 2.5 gallons of the club barrel aged Flanders Red that I offered up for the VIP beer. If you have another suggestion, please let me know by tomorrow evening when I plan to send our beer list to the BrewBQ folks.

I think we're going to have the jockey box and the table top, which should make...14 taps?

Jockey box is 7. Table top is 6. So, 13 total.

Club Flanders Red is a good choice for VIP.

So what is the plan for Saturday?

When are we setting up?

Who is bringing the equipment?

It looks like we have eleven products lined up. Two are VIP which are supposed to be pulled before the regular crowd arrives. That leaves nine. I can bring my two table top dispensers to cover my two half-sized kegs. That leaves seven. We could get by with just the jockey box.

The Craft Beer Zone (CBZ) is near the Riverwalk Park Community Bandshell in Independence. Details are below, but locations are vague, since they didn't provide much of a map.

I agree with Pat that if he brings his tabletop dispenser, we could get by with just the jockey box, so let's plan on that. I'm waiting to hear back on an email from Daryl, and I'll email him again this morning. Last I knew, he was planning on bringing up the equipment, but I offered to help him with that.

BrewBQ is giving us the shelter again, so setup time should be quick with just the jockey box and Pat's tabletop. Shall we plan to meet at 1:00 to be ready to pour by 3:00?

Info from BrewBQ coordinators:
"The Entrance to the CBZ to unload everything for your set up will be on the South end of the CBZ, so near the CBZ Gate.
The Exit to the CBZ will be on the North end of the CBZ. This will allow for everyone to drive in one end and out the other end.
Parking is available across the street from the North end of the CBZ.
Please note, Cedar Rapids Brewing Society, GFB2/IBU #334, and CRAZE will utilize the park shelters as their tent.
You may start setting up anytime after Noon on Saturday.
No vehicles will be allowed in the CBZ after 2:30 PM on Saturday, so please give yourself plenty of time to set up.
VIP Pass Holders hour begins at 3:00 PM, with the Regular Pass Holders open from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM."

Thank you to Daryl for bringing all of the equipment up to Independence yesterday. And thanks to Pat McCusker, Tony, and Derek for bringing beer, cider, and mead to share. Our stuff was a hit! I brought the club RIS and Flanders Red for the VIP beers, which both got a lot of good comments. Next stop, Amana!
