Cedar Rapids Brewing Society

Once again though we had a top notch range of beers at the festival our equipment doesn't do it justice. Anyone have suggestions? The wooden box and tower looks nice, but everyone does that. It's a bit pricey too. I would like to come up with something unique, either as a cover or a new cooler all together. Just about anything can be insulated and made waterproof.

From what I can find the beer engines are just a hand pump for an RV. Amazon sells them for $30.

Maybe the club could buy it if everyone approves. We have some time before spring so give it some thought.

We definitely need to do something. Everyone else had some really nice stuff equipment to work with. I agree with Tom great beer, crappy display. After the amount of beers we had showing this weekend we either need one large tap assembly or several smaller ones. We had 14 beers to serve, we did not even get them all on tap during the event.

Also, everyone else put our banner to shame this year as well, our banner was about 1/3 the size of everyone elses. We should have a larger back wall banner made and use our existing banner for a table banner or possible one that goes on the tap set up we make behind some acrylic or something.

I think this should be the item of priority at the next meeting. We have spoken about this before, but, it talk is cheap, this needs to get done. I am willing to put some work in towards this effort, to get it done.

I've been sketching some designs for an actual portable bar, with brass rails and the works.  It would be easy to move, and take the place of a 6 or 8 ft table.  I'll bring the designs to the next meeting.

I have a 6' brass footrail I would be willing to donate to the club. It is tarnished as hell, and would need some polishing. It might be able to be converted to a top rail.

Yep they were there. The 2 of them and another gal swam naked in the Millstream.

Damn, didn't realize those were the same crew from last year. Your right Tom, I should have paid better attention. Though if I had, probably would have gone swiming with them!

If we are going to do a portable bar setup type thing then we would have to put serious thought into how it breaks down so it can be moved about easily. We want something that can be transported easily. It would be nice if we could do more events and get some use out of the thing. Maybe we could organize a annual charity event. I know we had talked about this before, but, as always the beer starts to flow and another great idea dies. How many taps can this thing accomidate Jim? Might be nice if we did it in a way were it could be used in sections, so you could use 4 taps in a single way or daisy chain together for 16 taps or something like that.

I am still big on the idea of our brew club starting an annual beer event. Madision had to start somewhere and look where it is now. Not saying we would be anywhere near that or would even want to be, but still would be a great thing to get going.

Transportability will be key. We don't want to have to trailer something. I'm not sure we'll need anything less then 6' if we're going to replace a table with it anyway.

Jim is it something with built in taps or will we still use tap boxes with it?

I still have a plan for a box made out of frig material. I have most of what I need to build it except some old metal bed rails for a frame. It would only be 3' wide but won't break down.

I agree about portability. My goal is a design that knocks down into easily managed pieces.

Here's a question, which would be better: tap handles, or room to enclose a couple jockey boxes? Or both?

That will depend on everyones input. If we mount tap handles it could be set up to just conceal kegs on ice. But then we will have to buy shanks and taps. Or another shelf could be put in to hold the tap boxes.

There have been a lot of good aticles in BYO and Zymurgy lately about building a club box for events. They breakdown to flat walls and are really cool. Check them out and we can discuss at the next meeting.

I wasn't there so not sure what the other booths looked like. did anyone take any pictures of the booths?
