Elections for 2010

Elections are coming up in November for the four club executive positions. They are President, Vice President, Treasurer and Secretary. If you would like to run for a position, please post your name and what position you want to run for on this post. We will definitely need a new Pres since I will probably be moving to Dallas in early December in search of a job and some semblance of normalcy in my life again. All candidates must submit their self nominations by October 31 and we will vote in November.

As long as there no attempts of assassination, I'll plan on kicking off this thread by announcing my run for presidency.
Feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.
If we need to I can open up a separate post for campaigning on any positions with multiple candidates.
Cheers,

I would like a year off from office responsibilities if someone wants it. I do not mind being Treasurer but can't handle the extra time of cabinet meetings and such. Something about have twin babies and two other kids. I hear Pottsy would like a stab at it. Just remember we need a checking account. I am not leaving my name on an account I am not in charge of.

Let's try this again.
Just remember we need a checking
account. I am not leaving my
name on an account I am not
in charge of.
Well in that case, I'm not interested. It won't be anywhere near as
fun without your name on the account.

Ok, so far we have myself running for prez, and feel free to run for prez as well, VP was a nice position.
It also looks like there will be no VP, secretary or treasurer??? I know Matt is VERY busy, and although he said he would continue the treasurer spot I know (and no offense to Matt) he isn't able to consistently participate due to his army of kids, so he was scattered this last year.
Potsy, I’m not clear if your still willing to continue secretary, if so you need a laptop with a bigger battery.. haha. Otherwise it looks like other positions are open.
Let me remind everyone these positions don’t require a lot of time, just sincere interest to make the club better! We meet once a month before each meeting to try and hammer out as many details for events, meetings, direction of the club, club funds, promotions, etc. As I know some of you don’t seem fairly interested in dealing with these issues at the meeting. Of course since this is all our club, we value your input and support. Without the participation of the group as a whole this would be nothing more than drinking once a month. If that is your desire, there is no reason a thread can’t be started to get everyone together more than once a month for drinking purposes and those interested in the club can show up to the regular meeting portion.
I hope to see more interest for all four positions, to continue this club we need sincere folks in the executive team trying to lead this group as well as the heart and soul of the club which our its members participation. Because of this club I’ve been able to meet some really great people, drink some awesome beers, learn a lot as a brewer and be exposed to all sorts of other opportunities. I hope many of you have enjoyed the same results as I.
Cheers!

After mulling it over for some time now, I'll toss my hat into the ring for VP.
I was initially concerned about the time commitment, as I am also on the executive board for the LGBT employees group in my company, which consumes a fair amount of my off-hours time. When I do something, it's all in. It's just not in my nature to 1/2 ass something.
To follow up on something that T said, we should seriously consider a second night of the month for the majority of our sharing of beers. Not that we should exclude drinking from our regular Club meetings, as the Beer is why we're here! But, it's becoming increasingly difficult to herd up the cats at the meetings to conduct club business. We have a lot of ideas, events, and other activities that the club wants to pursue, but it doesn't just happen magically. It has to be organized, planned and executed. Being an anal-retentive Engineer, with a Type A personality, I believe that I can help get us on track to be a great club.

Thanks Tony for stepping up, we still have an open spot for secretary, and it’s a better position than you think. Also any of these four positions can be elected for, so nothing is closed yet.
Tony touched on my comments, and I just want to be clear that I’m not looking for a night where all we do is meet, I’m just under the impression some of you are more interested in the drinking/social aspect (this is based on the attention span of the group) and I was suggesting maybe for those who only get out once a month when they tell their wife they are having a “serious” meeting that now they could say they have two now, and one is to go get loaded and loud.
Beyond this point I think its great to get the brew members out beyond just the club, I myself get to see many of you outside of the club meetings, and I just quite frankly go out a lot, so when it comes time to the once a month meeting, I’m looking forward to accomplishing something with the brew club. So I’m hoping we can get everyone’s attention/participation for 20-30 minutes once a month instead of 2-3. And of course then on to the sampling.
Of course Larry is still prez through November, I know he is busy preparing to move but feel free to chime in.
Cheers

Cool, I need to get Larry removed from the current account. I will check with them to see if I can add Jim or whoever in his place. Only obstacle was it was an employee discount. I am guessing it won't be a problem. Then you won't have to open a new account unless you would prefer too. Just throwing it out there.

I'm very glad to see that some of you are stepping up to take on these positions with the club. I think we have a great club going here and I'd hate to see it slow down for lack of participation. It's really not that tough to go out drinking one other day a month to get some decisions made or get an agenda established for the regular meeting. Let's see...half priced Belgians at Blend on a Thursday night while discussing club business. Not too tough if you ask me. I think Big T, Tony, Pottsy and Matt will be great. It will be sad to leave you all, but fun to see and hear about what's going on with the club that I'm leaving behind. You already have some good ideas about meeting and posting when someone is going out drinking. Maybe one day you all can make a trip to Dallas and we can have a joint Cedar Rapids/Dallas home brew club get together. BBQ, beer, horse shoes - what could be better? Anyway, I'm looking forward to seeing everyone at the next meeting (my last) at Matt's house.

I verified I can drop Larry from the account and add Pottsy so if you want to keep the account open I will do that and get you added Jim. Bring a copy of your ID to the next meeting and I will have you sign your life away. I will leave myself on the account too. Always good to have two tied to the account unless one of us dies or something.
So to recap, here are the current list of candidates:
President: Travis S (the larger one)
Vice President/President of Vices: Tony B
Treasurer: Jim P
Secretary: open
We shall confirm new officers at the November meeting. Also, feel free to toss in your name for any of the positions and we will vote on it. Right now, there are some clear leaders in the elections.
Also think about what we want to accomplish next year. We have lots of ideas, but lets set some items to actually execute. Here are some examples
1) Build a draft system for festivals and what not
2) Beer and cheese event in February with Millstream
3) Any club beer trips, Des Moines, Madison, Dark Lord Days, etc...
4) Big Brew Day in May
5) Teach a Friend to Brew Day in November
