Cedar Rapids Brewing Society

First off I would like to thank the other judges Tom and Matt, and my wife as being the steward. As usual the judging is lots of fun, and it was great to see that we had enough entries to make it a real comp especially in a more unique lineup of Baltic Porters.

Next is the pyment, and hopefully we will have enough folks to keep that competition going. For those who haven’t started brewing, you better get started. I have one brewing, if it turns out someone will need to think about hosting this judging event as I'll be an entrant.

Tony, again with the DFL, that is why I didn't put mine in. Didn't want that title!

C. J. Your on a crude roll today. There were more than three entries but only three place.

Oh sorry my bad, didn't realize that there were more then three entries. That was the going discussion at the last meeting, that there were not that many entrants.

I really didn't mean to sound crude, for that I am sorry, was going more for a humurous approach.

As stated in another thread. I did make a Baltic Porter, that tastes really bad, which I am seriously sure would have landed dead last. Which is not why I did not enter it by the way. I did not enter it because I think I got some kind of infection in mine and I don't want people to have to drink bacterial infected beers. Which was why I was not even willing to enter it. Someone said that there were so few entries that it may be enough to take third (I think it was you big 'T' that told me that).

I believe that with these 3rd place points, that would make me Club Brewer of the Year for 2009 - hardly DFL territory.

While it's hard to say if this BP will live up to its older brother's reputation, it's still a success in my book. It was an experiment into "faux lagering", so I'm happy with the results. It's all about having fun with brewing and enjoying the results.

To promote a more positive attitude within in the Club and encourage people to push their boundaries in brewing, I propose that we drop the DFL "award."

Again, I am sorry Tony, I really did mean nothing at all by my comment. You have brewed some damn fine beers as has all in the club. Also again, as posted in another thread I brewed a Baltic Porter that was so bad that I was too ashamed of it to even enter it. So I will gladly take the DFL title for it. Mine will most likly only see the bottom of a drain.

As a matter of fact I have been very disappointed in all of my brews as of late. Not one of the beers I have produced in the last year have been even to the caliber of what I would call even good by club standards.

Congrats Tony on "Brewer of the year", no small feet with some of the talent floating in this place.
