Hotplate/Stirplate

Post by tompb »

I bought a hotplate/stirplate at an auction and tried it out over the weekend. Even with a 7x7 plate it would boil a 3 liter starter. I was kinda bummed. I was hoping to stay off the stove. I might try it with a smaller flask (I use a 5 liter now).

The stirplate worked great though. I smacked the pack the night before and made a starter first thing in the morning. In 6 hours I had a light kausen even with it stirring. I pitched into a cooled kettle and pumped into both carboys. I had activity by that night.

Jesus must have been a yeast. Who else could turn water into wine?
