Finally brewing my Irish Red Saturday
Finally brewing my Irish Red Saturday
I will be brewing an Irish Red on Saturday. I plan to start around 8am if I get rolled out of bed by then. I am anticipating a less than smooth brew day as I haven't brewed since Larry moved and I will be running with several pieces of new equipment. That being said, feel free to stop by. Could be a good learning opportunity and heavy practice of Relax, don't worry and have a homebrew. Let me know if you plan to stop by here or give me a call at (319) 654-5146.

Like we discussed last night, I am glad no one came over to watch. Since we were out later then planned last night, which was fun BTW, I skipped the yeast starter which I haven't done in years. I spent a lot of time putting stuff together and cleaning. When I mashed in I was much lower than my desired temp. I used my chiller as a HERMS coil in my boil kettle and it worked great for raising the mash temperature and mashing out. Chiller worked great and took my 6 gallon batch form boiling to 65 F in less than 10 minutes with just tap water. The sparge and re-circulating tube I rigged up in the mashtun worked great. Over shot my target gravity by 2 points which I can live with. Overall felt great to brew again and should be a good beer.
