I noticed on the De Moines craigslist someone out of Milwaukee selling converted keg kettles for $100

I contacted the guy and he has plenty available. He is doing business as Wisconsin Kegs http://www.facebook.com/pages/Wisconsin ... 3231350954

I've been considering going to all grain brewing, so I'm thinking about getting 1 for use as a mash tun.

They are available with 2 1/2 NPT fillings either horizontal or vertical orientation. I'm thinking that a vertical arrangement with a valve on the lower fitting and a dial thermometer for the upper fitting would be best. Any suggestions?

I would go with the horizontal fittings personally. With the verticals you have to have quite a bit of water or other (most likely 5 - 7 gallons) in the keg to even get it to be over the temp probe.
