I brewed an partial mash extract cream ale recipe and bottled 6 bottles of it in green bottles to test skunking beer.
I put the bottles in direct sunlight in my back yard for 1, 2, 4, 8, 12, and 16 hrs.
I found that the first too really didn't have much of a change, 8hrs reminded me of a hint of Heineken light but still not too noticeable , 12hrs was a little bit more, 16hrs definitely had a good skunkyness to it. Not too over powering.
In this experiment it seems between 14 to 20hrs(depending on your taste) of direct sunlight would be good for that eastern European lager flavor.
Note: This is an ale not a lager not sure what would change between the two but I might give it a try again when I get into making a couple lager.
Wasn't sure if anyone has tried this before or wanted to try making this style beer.

Kurt, it depends on the lightness of the beer and the hops, probably didn’t have much hops in the cream ale, try putting an ipa in the light next time, I think you will get shorter results. If you don’t mind wasting an IPA. That is why I always pull towards the back of the shelf in the coolers, or try not to buy anything on the top shelf in the stores.
