September 1st Tech Meeting

Post by carrisr »

Are we having a tech meeting Wednesday? If we need a topic, I could show my temp controller (pretty short though), or I could share what I've been learning about water mineral additions and water reports.

Thanks Randy, let's just point out that I slacked again. This one really caught me by surprize to be honest, for some reason I was under the impression that it was next Wed not tomorrow. I have been sick with a cold most of the week as well so that did not help.

I was planning on doing a stir plate build for the next DIY meeting, due to all the members that had obtained glass from Rob. Obviously with the meeting being tomorrow that is not going to happen.

I would like to save the water mineral additions for a water modification stuff Randy to do a full up water modification DIY meeting, it would be great if we could colaborate on that one and put together the meeting. So I guess that leaves 3 options for tomorrow.

1) postpone the meeting for a week and I put something together.
2) Have a tasting, I have a butt load of bottled beer that needs to be drank, would could have a clear the cellar meeting!
3) Randy could show and go over the temp controller (How to build, parts list, etc...), we could also use this as a prep meeting for IFOB on Sunday, taste serving beers, figure out transportation, get sign up sheets ready, etc.., we kind of came up short last year of other clubs, I would like to see that change back in our favor, and we could start to plan the meeting after as we always have a large influx of new members from that.

Please pitch a vote, I know it is short notice as the event is tomorrow, you have my appologies for that. I just want to get a general idea of what people want.

I'll vote for postponing it for a week for a purely personal reason; I forgot about the meeting and agreed to go to a Kernals game with the wife tomorrow. I'll understand with all that is going on that it might not work to postpone the meeting.

Sounds like postponing it is what needs to be done. I will be out of town, however, and will not be able to attend.

Ok, MEETING IS POSTPONED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.

I will try to get things together for next Wed for the stir plate meeting. Does anyone else want to build one at the meeting in addition. Please post here if you are so I can get an idea of what kind of parts we need.

Actually, I was kind of planning on getting people to sign up to build one then ordering the parts for all of them myself, this acomplishes 2 things.

1) Everyone is building the exact same thing.
2) A lot of the parts you can get at a much better price order in bulk (Stir bars, magnets, capacitors, ect...)

So that is why I was asking for people to post if they wanted to build one so that I could just order the parts, I am putting together the parts list right now. For what we need to get to build these, going over different designs and such. Most likely dependent on parts list it will cost anywhere from $25 to $30 dollars per build.

Speaking of which to we have any electrical engineers or someone who is good at reading and assembling electrical circuit assemblies here?

Jeremy -

If you order stir bars, I need some.  Please add 2 or 3 to the order for me.

I know some of the others are better than I am, but I'm pretty good with electrical assemblies.

I apprantly must be missing the list for the Tech meetings, but if were talking about building a stir plate, I'm soo In!

I'm open either tonight or next Wednesday.

Although if you postpone it too long you might just want to wait for the next month so were not doing back to back.. but its your call.

I also like the idea of clearing the cellar, I'm nut much for clutter so it sounds like a noteworthy choice.

I'd like to participate, but I'm on business travel most of next week and will miss the meeting.

Would it be possible to get in on the parts, so I can build it later - with help! (I'm the world's worst solderer)?

Since we don't have a "host" for the October Club meeting to designate a beer style, we could designate that one "Bring out yer Dead" (Monty Python reference), to clean out our beer cellars.

Nope, due to monday being a holiday, I could not get the materials here in time for the meeting.

Next week is the regular club meeting, So I think we will push the techincal meeting out to September 29th. I would like actually like to get one set of the materials I am going to use to build and build one first before we have 6 or 7 people building them. I am going to try to get some of the materials this week and build on either this weekend or during the next week. I will post some pictures and post status.
