I brewed a batch of Tasty McDole's APA today. The version I found has his notes on water so I followed those too (except for Mg, which he had very high so I wondered if it might be a typo). He called for a lot more gypsum than I've ever used before so it will be interested to see how it turns out. He also likes first wort hopping, very little bittering hops, with most of the hops very late in the boil plus dry hopping.
I also need to get a batch of an experimental winter warmer sometime soon.

Way to go Randy, I really do think that this is one of the big ticket items to consistant brewing. This is where i am headed too. You know exactly what is in your water when done this way and can get to the exact water profile you want for the style of beer you are brewing, I have already ordered my water modification supplies.carrisr wrote:Tom,
Yep, that's what I started with too. I'm going to do my next few beers with all RO water that I've modified.
Another note, I do a lot of listening to the brewing network, or at least used to before they stuck my ass in a lab at work, Tasty is not only a big fan of first wort hopping, but of mash hopping (I believe he does this with his IPA).
