2016 Tech Meeting #3: Belgian Yeasts - Apr. 7 - Turner Alley
Posted: Thu Mar 10, 2016 2:37 pm
On Thursday, April 7th, Andrew Maixner will present a Tech Meeting on his Belgian Yeasts Experiment at Turner Alley Brewing Company.
About the presentation:
Purpose: identify and compare characteristics of the commercially available belgian / trappist yeast strains (not the "clean" strains like Antwerp Ale).
Method: Ferment the same batch of wort across multiple yeast strains, at the same temperatures and similar pitch rates. I used the belgian dark ale recipe which I've been making for the last year+ (which is a low gravity version of Chimay Blue Label) for the wort.
Yeast strains used: Chimay, Duval, Westmalle, Ardenens, T58 (dry), Fermentis Abbaye (dry), Lallamand Abbaye (dry), and US-05 dry (Chico strain) as a "clean" control.
Participants will be able to taste and may be asked to judge Andrew's results.
While this event is not open to the public, members may bring a guest with them.
